Windows XP SP3 + WinDBg + MSEC

Oct 16, 2013 at 9:04 AM
Dear all,
i have Windows XP SP3 (x86) with WinDBG 6.11.0001.404 x86 - and it works fine. When I put MSEC.dll in winext directory '!load winext/MSEC.dll' returns:

The call to LoadLibrary(winext/MSEC.dll) failed, Win32 error 0n127
"The specified procedure could not be found."
Please check your debugger configuration and/or network access.

I have Visual Studio 12 using CRT 11 runtime libraries installed. Any clues/hints?

Regards

Hello - Solution is simple - for unknown (to me)reasons MSEC doesn't work with SDK windbg release (6.11.0001.404), but works properly with standalone version (6.12.0002.633 X86) which can be found here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/A/6/A/A6AC035D-DA3F-4F0C-ADA4-37C8E5D34E3D/setup/WinSDKDebuggingTools/dbg_x86.msi

Hope it helps anybody doing Corelan exploit tutors ;)

Happy hunting :)
